If you've chosen new wall lights and need them installed, you're probably wondering what it's going to cost. Wall light installation is one of the most common electrical jobs we carry out, and the cost to replace wall lights is straightforward once you know what's involved. Here's what you need to know.
For up to three wall light replacements, you're looking at around £115 plus VAT. That includes removing your existing wall lights, disposing of them responsibly, and installing your new ones — including appropriate fixings. As with ceiling light fittings, new wall lights often come with screws in the box, but they're rarely suitable for a secure, lasting fix. We bring our own fixings so everything goes up properly and safely.
This is something that catches people out with wall light installation and it's worth knowing about upfront. Unlike a ceiling rose which is largely hidden by the new fitting, wall lights sit flat against the wall — so the surface behind them really matters. If your old wall light left marks, filled holes or uneven plaster around the back box or cable entry point, this can affect the final position and finish of your new wall lights.
We'll do our best to work with what's there, and we carry filler for minor imperfections as part of the wall light replacement. But if the wall surface is significantly uneven or damaged, it's worth getting a plasterer in first before we arrive. A flat, clean surface gives the best result and means your new wall lights sit flush and look exactly as they should.
We ask customers to supply their own bulbs when replacing wall lights, and getting this right before we arrive matters. Check the cap type your new wall lights require — bayonet, Edison screw, G9, or another fitting — and match the wattage to the fitting's rating. A decent quality LED is always worth the extra few pounds over a cheap alternative; it'll last longer and give a much better quality of light.
If you're planning to run your wall lights on a dimmer, your bulbs must be dimmable. Standard LEDs on a dimmer circuit will flicker, buzz or simply not dim correctly. This is one of the most common issues our qualified electricians encounter after wall light installation — always check the packaging before you buy. If you're unsure, give us a call before you order.
Most wall light installations are straightforward. If your new fitting is particularly heavy or has decorative elements that need assembling — glass shades, multiple arms or intricate parts — allow a little extra time. We'll let you know at the quoting stage if anything looks like it'll take longer than usual and adjust the wall light installation cost accordingly.
When your new wall lights are delivered, check everything is in the box and nothing is damaged. Make sure your bulbs are ready to go at the same time. If anything is missing or broken, get it sorted before our visit — it avoids a wasted call out and keeps the job running smoothly.

I would highly recommend Karen and her team for any electrical jobs you have. From the moment I first emailed my enquiry the service was super quick (I appreciate this depends on their other jobs at the time). We found the service to be friendly and pro-active. We had an appointment quickly and the engineer was able to find the issue, which was not straightforward, within an hour and rewire the effected ceiling lamp and resolve the issue completely within 2 hours.
