Where the existing hole is oversized — whether through heat damage to the plaster around the downlight or inconsistent cutting over the years — we fit an oversized downlight trim ring directly to the ceiling before the new fitting goes in. The trim ring cover plate sits flush against the ceiling, conceals the existing hole, and neatens up any heat-damaged or uneven plaster around it. The new LED downlight then clips into the ring, and from the floor the finish looks clean and deliberate.
It's a straightforward fix that avoids the cost and disruption of bringing a plasterer in to fill and repaint a handful of ceiling holes. We assess every position on site and flag it before we proceed — no surprises on the day.
Supply and installation of four recessed LED downlights with oversized ring — to existing positions with cabling already in place — typically starts from around £282–£325 + VAT.

The fittings themselves — integrated, fire-rated LED downlights. Fire-rated means the fitting maintains the fire integrity of your ceiling, which is required in most domestic properties and essential where building regulations apply.
Adjustable colour temperature, confirmed at the time of installation. You choose between warm white, neutral white, or daylight. Warm white suits living rooms and bedrooms, neutral white works well in kitchens, and daylight is popular in bathrooms and home offices where you want a crisper, brighter light.
Low energy LED throughout — significantly more efficient than the halogen GU10s being replaced, and they run cool, which reduces the risk of further heat damage above the ceiling and extends the life of the fitting.
Disposal of your old fittings to a waste facility registered with the Environment Agency — removed and dealt with properly, not bagged up and left on site.
All work carried out by NICEIC registered electricians, giving you the assurance that the installation meets current wiring regulations.
If the existing cabling needs remedial work, the circuit needs extending, or access is restricted — a shallow ceiling void, plasterboard complications or joists in awkward positions — that will affect the price. Where oversized downlight trim rings are needed to cover damaged plaster or enlarged holes, these are quoted per fitting and agreed before we start. You'll always have a clear picture of the full cost upfront.
